Residential Burglary, Byron Road, Royston

Dear Resident

On Saturday 8th February 2025 between 01:15am and 02:00am a burglary took place in Byron Road, Royston.

Two unknown males have parked their car on  COOMBELANDS ROAD and have approached BYRON ROAD. Entry to the property has been gained via the back door to the house. The sensor light has been taken off the wall and damaged. The back door lock has been smashed in and damaged and subsequently a pair of car keys to the vehicle, have been taken from inside the address.

The offender has exited through the back and gone to the driveway. They have opened the car and have attempted to start the car. This has been unsuccessful and offenders have taken the log book and left.  They were both average build. They wore tracksuit bottoms and big padded jackets. One of the males had an emblem on the back of his big, padded jacket.

One of the males was wearing a deer stalking/shooting hat or an aviator hat without the wool which covered most of his face.

Tips to prevent burglary:

  • Check downstairs windows and doors are securely locked before you leave or go to bed.

  • Use a “Fake TV” or timer switches on lamps to give the impression someone is at home.

  • Don’t leave keys, phones or other valuables on windowsills or in any other visible place.

  • Secure UPVC doors by lifting the handle and locking it to engage the security features.

  • Consider using a doorbell camera, interior camera or a monitored burglar alarm.

  • Securely lock rear gates, sheds and garages.

  • Keep tools and ladders locked away, as they could be used to break into your home.
